Casts
Drawing and painting casts occupies a large part of a student’s training. Cast work is an excellent way for students to refine their skills in accurate drawing and correctly rendering the full range of values (light, shadow and halftone). Students copy progressively more difficult casts during each of three phases, first in charcoal on white paper, then on toned paper using charcoal and white chalk, and finally in grisaille using oil paint.
